Browsing the site requires no account and collects no personal information from you. Two optional forms collect what you type into them: the river intel report (river, your note, and — only if you choose to give them — a name and email) and the sponsor inquiry form (business name, email, phone, message). Standard web-server logs and our spam protection also record the IP address a submission came from.
Intel reports are used to improve river condition information and may be shown on the site without your name or email — contact details are only used to reply to you. Sponsor inquiries are used to respond to your request. We do not sell personal information, run advertising or cross-site tracking networks, or share submissions with anyone outside the site's operation.
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which rivers and states people actually use, so we know where to expand. It sets a first-party cookie and records things like the pages you view, your approximate location from your IP address, and your device type. We do not enable Google’s advertising or cross-site personalisation features, and we never send it your name or email. You can opt out across every site with Google’s opt-out browser add-on, or by turning on your browser’s tracking protection.
Live river data comes from USGS Water Services and weather from Open-Meteo; your browser requests weather data directly from Open-Meteo for the river page you're viewing. Map tiles are served by CARTO/OpenStreetMap. These services see standard request data (such as your IP address) as any website resource does.
Form submissions are kept while they're useful for running the site. Want something you submitted corrected or deleted? Email hello@gofloatthatriver.com and we'll take care of it.
Float ratings are a screening tool computed from public gauge data — they are not a guarantee of safety and are no substitute for your own judgment on the water. Wear your PFD, portage every dam, never float flood water.
